Article Introduction Comment
This article, “An Ephemeral ‘Peace’ – Ceasefire Agreement Between Iran and Israel” (June 26, 2025), sharply denounces the so-called “peace” achieved through U.S. military intervention. Without concrete evidence of Iran possessing nuclear weapons, the U.S. and Israel launched a preemptive strike and forced a ceasefire under military dominance. The article calls this a temporary and deceptive peace, merely extending imperialist domination. It strongly critiques Trump’s opportunistic militarism and the double standards of global politics, offering valuable insight into the current international order.

Article Summary
In June 2025, Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, followed by U.S. military support. This led to a temporary ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Trump hailed the operation as a great success, claiming it destroyed Iran’s nuclear threat and brought peace. However, there was no verified evidence that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. U.S. intelligence had testified otherwise, and negotiations with Iran were ongoing.

Despite this, Trump ignored these facts and attacked. The so-called “ceasefire” is nothing more than a fragile suspension enforced by overwhelming military pressure. Meanwhile, Israel continues oppression against Palestinians and escalates pressure on Iran-aligned states. The article concludes that imperialism, with military might as its logic, can never produce true peace. Genuine peace requires the elimination of imperialist dominance from the global system.

Malgré cela, Trump a décidé d’attaquer.

A False “peace”
Iran and Israel Agree to 'Casefire

June 26, 2025
-------------------------------------------------------------

The military conflict between the two countries, which began with Israel's large-scale preemptive attack on Iran, ended in a “ceasefire” due to the United States' strong military intervention in Iran. Trump is touting that he has achieved “peace,” but this “peace” achieved by force is likely to be only temporary.

Attack on Iran without evidence of nuclear development

The U.S. attack targeted three nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, using cruise missiles launched from submarines and B-2 stealth bombers equipped with bunker-busting bombs.

In a speech to the American people, Trump boasted of the “military success,” stating that “Iran's major nuclear facilities have been completely destroyed,” and explained the purpose as “destroying Iran's uranium enrichment capabilities and preventing the nuclear threat posed by Iran, the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism.” He also warned, “We must not forget that many targets remain. If peace does not come, we intend to accurately and swiftly attack other targets,” implying that further attacks could follow depending on Iran's response.

Trump cited Iran's “nuclear threat” as the reason for the attack. It is true that Iran had exceeded international monitoring standards in compressing uranium concentration. As an Islamic religious state, Iran has been in conflict with Israel and the United States as a major power in the Middle East, competing for hegemony in the region. It cannot be denied that Iran has ambitions to possess nuclear weapons.

However, there is no evidence that uranium enrichment had progressed to the point where nuclear weapons possession was realistic. Regarding Iran's nuclear development, at a US Senate hearing in March this year, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, who oversees US intelligence agencies such as the CIA, testified that “we assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon.” The sixth round of negotiations between the US and Iran on uranium enrichment was scheduled to take place on June 15. Nevertheless, Trump ignored Gabbard's report and the ongoing negotiations with Iran and attacked Iran's uranium enrichment facilities.

It was during Trump's first term that the US unilaterally withdrew from the treaty to monitor Iran's uranium enrichment, which was concluded to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

In 2015, the US, UK, Germany, France, Russia, China, and Iran reached a “comprehensive agreement” to lift economic sanctions against Iran in exchange for Iran not possessing nuclear weapons. In response, in 2018, the Trump administration criticized the agreement as “flawed and corrupt” and unilaterally withdrew from it. If Trump truly did not want Iran to possess nuclear weapons, he should not have withdrawn from the agreement. Trump prioritized weakening Iran, which advocates anti-Americanism and seeks hegemony in the Middle East, over preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The illusion of “peace” through military force

Iran's retaliation against the US attack consisted only of a missile attack on a US military base in Qatar (with prior warning), which led to the continuation of negotiations between the US and Iran and a “ceasefire” between Iran and Israel. This was because Iran, exhausted by years of economic sanctions, had no means of countering the powerful military forces of the US and Israel.

The “ceasefire agreement” between Israel and Iran is a temporary ‘ceasefire’ brought about by U.S. military pressure and does not signify the establishment of a “peaceful” order. Israel, which aims to overthrow the Iraqi government by assassinating Khamenei, will become increasingly arrogant, intensify its oppression of Palestinians within its borders, and increase its military pressure on pro-Iranian countries in the region.

This will inevitably provoke a backlash from Arab and Islamic forces against Israel and the United States. Radical forces may also emerge in Iran. After the United States overthrew the Iraqi government on the grounds that it possessed weapons of mass destruction (which later turned out to be false information), the situation descended into a quagmire with the rise of the Islamic radical group ISIS, and there is no guarantee that history will not repeat itself.

No true peace without the elimination of imperialism

Trump boasts that the military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities has brought about a “ceasefire” between Israel and Iran and brought “peace” to the Middle East.

However, this justifies the imperialist claim that military force brings about “peace.” If what Trump says is true, then Putin's military invasion of Ukraine and China's military expansion in the Asia-Pacific region would also be justified. This reveals that the international society dominated by capital is a barbaric society where the law of the jungle prevails.

As symbolized by the United States, China, and Russia, the current international society is one where imperialist great powers, backed by nuclear weapons, collaborate or confront each other for their own interests. Without eliminating imperialism, true peace cannot be achieved.
